The GCR Opportunities Fund is Coefficient Giving's cross-cutting fund for strengthening the ecosystem of people and organizations working on global catastrophic risks — primarily risks from advanced AI and catastrophic biological risks. Where the Navigating Transformative AI Fund backs research organizations directly, this fund invests in the talent pipeline and field infrastructure around them.

It funds individuals at any career stage — graduate study, career transitions, unpaid internships, independent study — and programs and events: fellowships, residencies, courses, seminars, conferences, workshops, and retreats on GCR, effective altruism, and adjacent topics. It is open to applicants in any country and runs rolling applications.

The fund's implicit bar is talent-multiplier logic: a grant is good if it moves capable people into high-impact GCR work or strengthens the field's infrastructure at low cost. Typical checks are small relative to org grants, and the fund tolerates high variance across many small bets. It inherits Open Philanthropy's GCR capacity-building program's style: generous with promising individuals, skeptical of vague community projects without a clear path to talent or research output.
